"What They Don't Teach You in College: Business Etiquette Tips for the Real World"

Working in the real world for the first time is one of the most difficult transitions in life. And, it's not the hard skills that make it tough, but rather the soft ones.

This presentation is an interactive romp through the do's and don'ts of etiquette. Importantly, this is not about whether to hold your pinkie out when sipping high tea, but rather a look at business issues - like how to act, dress, and excel, on the phone, in your cube, at a meeting, and at a business meal.

We watch a video where our hero bumbles his way through a host of embarrassing situations in a "typical" day. While some of his gaffes are obvious, others are much more subtle. Is it okay to Instant Messenger a friend? Can you make personal calls from work? Who gets up when an extra chair is needed for a meeting? What is appropriate email etiquette?

Students are asked to identify the mistakes he makes, and learn first hand, from a former Human Resources VP, the tricks of the trade to succeed in the business world.

The audience then has an opportunity to have their business etiquette questions answered. There are always scores of questions and lots of learning in this session.
