Bonjour! Hola! Guten Tag!
Yes, you guessed it! Being bilingual or multilingual is one of the hottest new job skills.
There are more than 40 million Hispanics in the US today, and the Latino community will add about 1.7 million people to its population every year. Due to this aspect, bilingual professionals in the job market have niche markets they can pursue. According to experts, the top industries for bilingual candidates include healthcare, sales and marketing, financial services, social services and public service.
Even though bilingual skills aren't always required to get a great job, many companies prefer candidates with this additional dimension.
So why not try learning a new language in 2006!
Of course, you should sell this "hot new skill" on your cover letter and in your resume. It's just something a little "lagniappe" that will help you stand out.
