Resolution #3: Learn something new
"Learning something new" consistently makes the top ten list for New Year's resolutions. Fortunately, this resolution can help you improve both personally AND professionally.
Technology, industry trends, and job skills can all change rapidly over the course of a couple of years. Taking computer classes, getting involved with trade organizations, and staying abreast of industry happenings will increase your attractiveness as a job candidate.
Even acquiring new hobbies and fun extracurricular activities can help you get a job. A member in your sailing class could be an executive at a business where you want to get your foot in the door. Your trombone teacher may just so happen "to know someone who knows someone." And the Recruiting Director that interviews you may have taken the same basket weaving class you are taking.
Learning something new gives you great skills that you can transfer to the workplace, and it also gives you new connections and more ways to network.
Next time, I'll tell you about the HOTTEST new job skill that you can learn!
